Sensitive Teeth

Having sensitive teeth is a very frustrating struggle for many and can take the enjoyment out of cold treats or your hot coffee. It can be just one tooth, multiple, or all of them that give you sensitivity and it can be chronic or mild.

What causes sensitivity?

  • Gum disease and recession
  • Tooth decay
  • Tooth erosion from acidic foods
  • Teeth grinding
  • Over brushing
  • Damaged fillings, crowns or other dental work
  • Bleaching and whitening toothpastes

How can I avoid sensitive teeth?

  • Avoid overly hot or cold foods and drinks
  • Limit your consumption of acidic and sugary foods and drinks
  • Brushing and flossing more regularly, ensuring you are brushing gently in small circular motions
  • Swapping your toothbrush for one with softer bristles, we recommend soft toothbrushes
  • Try using sensitive toothpaste and don’t rinse after brushing
  • Keeping on top of regular dental check-up and cleans

Whilst sensitivity is very common, it can be the sign of something more problematic which could require treatment. If you suddenly start getting sensitivity in a tooth, it is a good idea to get it checked as it could require a filling or even a root canal.
